This world has led us to believe that the only desirable individuals in the country are those who are thin, tall, and cute. It’s obvious in all the movies we watch, shows we go to, general remarks in the media and so on. In the middle of all the chaos, here’s Karen, a bogie, wiggly boy who appears to have blown away the entire world, yet is innocent by heart. Karen, like all humans, has anger issues, mood swings, and irritation, yet something in him allows him to see beyond the differences.

         He’s spent his entire childhood on the farm growing veggies, and it’s his unique perspective that has made him knowledgeable. He is a great observer who enjoys observing everything that occurs around him. He handles serious concerns and aspires to live a carefree life. The crowded roadways that run through Chennai frustrate and torture the working folks the most. Karen had wished for blue beaches, a peaceful setting, a beautiful sky, and great friends ever since he was a kid. He desired to experience the freedom of making his own judgements and spending his own money.

 However, the thought of completing his 12th grade wrecks his hopes and pulls him back to reality. The town of Mantri Nagar looks like heaven on earth among the drilling devils of the universe. With so much going on in the city, a majestic structure stood tall with compassion and pride. The towering building has been Karen’s home for more than 5 years. He lives on the 12th floor of the prestigious apartment and finds it quite difficult to manage all the things going on around him. Karen loves being alone and dislikes spending time with his neighbours or acquaintances.

          A group of youngsters living next door argue with each other for the silliest of reasons at 3:00 a.m. every day. Karen was sleep-deprived, and it’s been three weeks since he had his last dream. Well, this isn’t his only major issue; he has other problems to deal with in his school and with himself. To talk about his school life, he always secures low marks in all his examinations and is always treated very badly by his professors and classmates. Every single day he enters the classroom with shivering hands and waggling legs, unsure of what’s going to happen for the rest of the day. He was the source of entertainment for all his classmates, and he had no one with him to back him up and save him from all the ragging and teasing.

“What did you eat today, Karen? You appear to have consumed a hundred pizzas in a single swoop.”

“Yes, Ruchi, you are correct.”

“Stop scolding him, he’s not a teddy bear weaning for his mother’s affection, he’s a giant panda”

         Everyone began laughing at him as he walked to the final row of his class. When he bent down to remove his sock, he was surprised to discover the obvious insect bites. He was ashamed and hurried to the toilet to wipe and cover it up. When he opened the door, he finds all of his classmates peeking out the window and watching him. When the professor suddenly appeared and instructed everyone to take their seats, they began to laugh aloud. Karen is unable to bear each one of the nuisances at home and school, but he lacks the courage to complain to the principal.

         This carried on for weeks with no change in Karen or his classmates. Karen was thoroughly soaked in the rain one rainy morning and raced to school before the bell rang. Richie opened the door from the other side while Karen was rushing to open the glass door. I know we expected something similar to the movie scenario, but it was not the same state in which Karen shows his tragedy in slow motion. He stumbled and fell directly in front of the classroom, injuring himself severely.

 No one came to assist him in getting back on his feet, and everyone laughed at him. He walks in without saying anything to anyone and convinces himself that he would ignore everyone around him and concentrate solely on his lessons.

 Even though he tried hard to concentrate on the lectures, the incident continued to bother him and hindered him from studying. He fails to answer the questions asked by his teachers and got detention for the very first time. He leaves home and calls to inform his mother about this incident which upsets her as well.

With all that running in his mind, he runs to the lonely street next to his house and decides to take a walk. He considers himself the unluckiest one and sheds tears not knowing how to face the problems. As he was taking a turn, he notices few cats fighting and pushing each other from the terrace.

“OMG, what if one of them falls over the terrace? Why do they have to fight if they don’t know how to talk? Words are the most powerful poison, yet I’m not sure what troubles them.”

He goes off into the desolate Street to continue his journey. He didn’t realize he had arrived at the main road until it was almost 12:00. He decided to do a U-turn and return to his residence before the lights went out. He notices an old age home that he has never seen before as he approached. The state of its exterior suggests that it was constructed many years ago, and was just converted into a home for the elders.

He realised that people aren’t always terrible and that there are those who do good and pursue the correct path. As he approached the house, he heard people yelling in the traffic on the main road and the sound of a construction activity in a hospital nearby. He felt horrible about the situation because they had to deal with the noises every day. This irritated him even more, so he left and dashed back to his house as the lights began to fade. While hurrying to his house, he discovered a leak in the water tank of his street.

         He becomes irritated by the situation and blames God for causing trouble for everyone. He returns home, thinking that it would be his millionth time entering his apartment for the day, but little did he know that this would transform his view and character. He noticed a girl weeping by the gate, holding a dog. He questioned her by inquiring about standing at the gate at midnight with a dog in her hand.

         Karen also enquired about her parents and she said that she is living with her aunt and she has told her aunt that she will be back in three hours from the park. He then asks the girl about her house which the girl neglects and it seems like she does not want to go in. Karen became curious and inquired as to why the girl did not want to enter the room. He was moved to tears by her response. Yes, I warned you that he was sensitive. This time, it was for a good purpose. The girl informed Karen that she had been feeding that dog for about a week and that she wanted to take the pet home with her. Her aunt gave her permission, but security won’t let her bring a street dog to his house. Karen felt brave for the first time and chose to speak with the management about it. He immediately went to the office and questioned the manager about the difference he makes between a street dog and a Doberman.

He forced the management to apologize and let the girl take the puppy in. The joy on her face knew no boundaries as she bounced around and thanked Karen for saving the dog. Karen returned to his house, and his heart overflowed with joy. He was pleased with himself for assisting someone in need, and he is relieved that he will be able to sleep peacefully after a billion days.

He shuts his eyes and returns to his dream world, only to wake up in the middle of the night to realize the situation of the people he saw today. He felt he could help someone in need, but he can’t help everyone. So, he resolves to do something about the difficulties that are arising. The next day, he walks down the street and was startled to discover the hospital open and operating as usual. He walked in and found the patients wearing headphones and using a musical system to help them sleep comfortably by drowning out outside sounds. He was overjoyed when he saw the patient’s condition and returned to his street. He also discovered a new line in the tank that is connected to the hole. That pipe connects to their apartment’s trees and the neighbouring street. He was mesmerized by the developments that occurred overnight.
